Privacy policy

When you just browse: we count visits with our own cookie-free analytics. For each page view we store the page address, the referring website, your device type (phone, tablet or computer), browser name and country. To count unique visitors we use a one-way code made from your IP address, browser and a secret that changes every day. We never store your IP address, and the code can't be used to follow you from one day to the next. We don't use advertising cookies or third-party trackers.

When you sign in with Google: your name, email address and profile photo from Google, and what you do with your account — events you save, reviews, plans you post in “Find people to go with” and requests you send.

When you ask for emails: your email address, which events you want reminders for, and whether you want the weekly email.

When you fill in a form (submit an event, partner or advertising enquiry, volunteer application): what you type in, such as your name, email, phone number, organisation and message, plus any poster you upload.

Security checks: our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to block bots, and our servers keep short-lived technical logs (including IP addresses) to keep the Service running and secure.

• To run the Service: show events, save your plans, send the emails you asked for.
• To run community features: show your reviews and plans, and share your chosen contact details with people you accept.
• To review submissions, partner enquiries and volunteer applications, and to reply to you.
• To understand which pages and features are useful, and to show overall visitor numbers publicly (never individuals).
• To keep the Service safe: prevent spam, abuse and fraud, and enforce our Terms.
• To meet legal obligations.

Reviews and buddy plans show your first name, the first letter of your last name and your profile photo. Your email address is never shown publicly.

In “Find people to go with”, the contact detail you type in (for example an Instagram handle or WhatsApp number) is shown only to people you accept, or to the person who accepted you. Once you share a contact with someone, we can't control what they do with it — only share what you're comfortable with.

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with services that help us run DhakaHype:

• Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage)
• Vercel (hosting)
• Google (sign-in; maps when you view a map)
• Cloudflare (bot protection on forms)
• Resend (sending emails)
• Anthropic (our team may use Claude to read event listings that organisers or admins paste in)

These providers may process data outside Bangladesh. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or to investigate abuse of the Service.

Event pages link to organisers' and ticketing websites. Once you leave DhakaHype, their privacy policies apply, not ours.

We only send reminders and the weekly email after you confirm your address. Every email has a link to change your settings or unsubscribe in one click. We may also send you service messages, for example when someone asks to join your plan.

• Visit statistics: about 13 months. “People online now” heartbeats: 24 hours.
• Account data: until you ask us to delete your account.
• Email subscriptions: until you unsubscribe; we keep a record that you unsubscribed so we don't email you again.
• Form submissions and applications: as long as needed to handle them, then deleted or anonymised. Certificate records are kept so they can still be verified.

You can ask us to see, correct or delete your personal information, or to delete your account, by emailing hello@dhakahype.com. You can delete your own reviews and buddy plans at any time, and unsubscribe from emails from any email we send.

DhakaHype is not meant for children under 13, and “Find people to go with” is for people aged 18 and over. If you think a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and reputable providers. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security — please use a strong Google account password.
